The South African curriculum is contaminated with poison and parents remain unaware and learners suffer the consequences. The NCS curriculum is the most dangerous and poisonous curriculum ever. The failure learners suffer at school is not their failure but is the failures and shortcomings of the curriculum of the country. South Africa continuously fails to understand the importance of providing the curriculum meant to meet the educational needs of every learner, but most importantly the life aspirations of the learner.
Just because the curriculum is old and have, in the past, managed to produce a scarce number of successful people doesn’t mean that we should continue with it. The modern trends of education compel curriculum systems transformation across the globe. South Africa appears to be legging behind if not totally ignorant of this trend.
In the near future of personalized education curriculum system (PECS), schools will be structured differently if education systems of the world are to ensure education demand and supply equitably. Learners interested in LAW for an example can’t continue sitting in the same class with learners interested in ENGINEERING and vice versa. This means that a revolution in education is upon us whereby basic education schools are structured as follows: School of Law, School of Engineering, School of drama and arts, school of travel, tourism and hospitality, School of sports etc.
Schools such as these would be seeking to group learners in accordance with their desired career paths rather than mixing up learners in one classroom with various interests in life. Schools in this fashion will automatically challenge the curriculum transformation. The curriculum will now be designed to suit the learners’ interests in life than forcing learners to do subjects they have no interest in as it is currently the case with NCS. Unless schooling is established in this fashion, the problems faced in education will continue and escalate every year.
The proposed idea also seeks to provide relevant subjects to the learners with an intention to explicitly expose learners to their career paths while still in high school. Personalized education curriculum systems is of the view that, for an example, learners interested in LAW need not to wait until university to have a subject called : Constitution, Family law, legal studies, etc. One wonders what exactly learners interested in law are doing at school and which subjects are they currently doing if the aforementioned subjects aren’t found in any public and private high school in South Africa. Others may argue the point that amongst the reasons learners hate school is because of the curriculum irrelevancy which they see as a waste of time – and this is true. Currently, the education system in SA is answering the question nobody asked! The education in SA is providing learners with a number of subjects to choose from, yet those subjects aren`t relevant to the career paths of learners – whatever they are giving the learners as an educational response, it is a response given to no question asked! Nobody asked this type of education curriculum. Some learners aren’t academically gifted but very talented, that is automatically the question as to what the education can provide for the talented learners, the answer is: create the ‘School of sports”, yet there is no such a school in south Africa governed by the state. This simply means that such leaners aren’t accommodated within the curriculum; they are excluded as they are forced to blend in with the rest in academics. The Simnandi Solutions education private company has a solution to all these problems. Our group has a proper alternative to the current curriculum system and is open to discuss it with those interested in changing the education system of our nation. Personalized Education Curriculum System (PECS) seeks to reverse the current curriculum irrelevancy into curriculum relevancy. The PECS is designed to save learners from the monstrous and poisonous curriculum that forces them to undertake subjects they won’t need in the future. PECS is a transformative education curriculum system that, through its nature of design, will put an end to the whole confusion around curriculum debates. PECS will further sort out the pass requirement standards once and for all. PECS seeks to bring back the value and the dignity of our education system. PECS ensures that learners taste the glimpse of the workplace experience while still at school. That is what makes our curriculum unique and highly relevant to inspire the education community of our nation, South Africa and the whole of Africa. And that is how we believe the education system can be fixed.
